The Book Club | Resident Dog by Nicole Engalnd

Pooch Appreciation

This one’s for you, my doggo lovin’ friends. Quite simply and best described as a book of incredible homes and the dogs that live within.

Resident Dog Book Review

Despite being a dog lover since way back, we’ve never actually owned one (well not for any longer than three weeks, but that’s a different story altogether). My children actually claim to be mentally scarred from not having a pooch in their younger years. Instead, I opted for frogs and goldfish, enjoying the lazier approach to parenting pets.

This book captures exquisite homes, but pulling rank (and almost stealing the show) is the resident dog! I love that among the architectural wonderment and perfectly put together interiors, is a four-legged creature bringing an element of playfulness to the scene.

Totally oblivious to his surrounds, said dog is usually masquerading as a style piece, specifically chosen for their matching fur and floof, tying in quite nicely with the interior palette – “a handsome addition to the colour scheme” as mentioned in the book.

There’s a nice balance within the pages between profiling the well-deserving architects and offering an insight into each canine, their breed, idiosyncrasies and crazy habits (the good and not so good). The photography is fantastic too – a full montage of mid-century, penthouse apartment, Scandi, modern, beachy, Edwardian, and country too.

If you fancy a forever-copy, this gorgeous book is available via Booktopia, or check out your local library. My book itch got a little crazy so I’ve got a library card now. It feels pretty good, leafing through the pages of a few books and returning for a handful more.
